Sturdy luggage for camping trip?

My sister is taking her cl for a group camping trip where she and her students will be doing a lot of activities like hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, etc. She needs a good, sturdy piece of luggage to carry her clothing and gear. Also, it has to be weatherproof to account for any unforeseen rainfall. Any ideas?
